The Alameda is part of the first phase of San Leandro Crossings, a mixed-use but primarily residential transit-oriented development adjacent to the Downtown San Leandro BART Station. The first phase includes 100 affordable homes, 200 market-rate homes, and a large BART parking garage.

This new neighborhood will have unparalleled access to transit and will be connected to shops and services in downtown San Leandro through a number of improved pedestrian routes. San Leandro Crossings will increase transit ridership, provide needed workforce housing, improve safety in the area and serve as a catalyst for the downtown revitalization. In 2008, the State of California awarded the project $24,000,000 for infrastructure improvements.

This five-story apartment building includes 100 rental homes for families earning from 35% to 50% of Area Median Income. It features a number of gathering spaces, laundry facilities on every floor, urban agriculture, and an ample community space that opens onto a landscaped central courtyard.
