Architecture of Affordable Housing and Health Outcomes

Tuesday, February 19, 2013, 12:30 p.m.

There is a direct correlation between poor design of affordable housing and poor health outcomes for the residents who live there. Privately owned single-room-occupancy hotels are often the only affordable housing option for an indigent population, but they are often under-regulated, substandard and insufficient in meeting the needs of residents. What new developments in policy and affordable housing design are addressing these outcomes? Join architect David BakerRajiv Bhatia, director of Occupational and Environmental Health at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and Chris Duncan, principal at Gelfand Partners, as they discuss this important topic.
