David Baker + Partners is a mid-sized firm adept in the personal, political, and commercial dynamics of bringing new architecture into diverse, urban environments. Our work combines social concern with a signature design character, resulting in distinctive, high-quality buildings that provide residents with a strong sense of community. In this way, our work acts as an advocate for improved urban planning, where looking good only counts if it does good, too. We focus primarily on affordable, sustainable, mixed-use urban infill projects, and we're a San Francisco Certified Green Business.

We run a casual professional office with about 20 employees, two cats, and a vegetarian kitchen. The pantry is full of healthy snacks, and we also receive a weekly organic fruit delivery. Once a week we gather for a communal lunch, and happy hour is every Friday at 5:00 pm. We have indoor bike parking, and a shower. We offer monthly gift certificates for REI Co-op as thanks for using alternative transportation, as well as a City CarShare membership, commuter checks, and monthly in-house chair massage for all employees. Full-time employees are eligible for our 401(k) program, a profit-sharing plan, and medical, dental, and vision insurance after 90 days. We honor eight paid holidays as well as 15 days of paid leave to start.

Applications should be formatted in a single 8.5" x 11" PDF, titled with the date and your name (ie: 2008-08-14_Your.Name.pdf). The PDF should contain a maximum of 11 pages, not exceed 3MB, and include:

1. Cover letter. Please indicate the level of position for which you are applying.
2. Brief written statement (150-300 words) explaining why you practice architecture.
