Inspiration: A semiofficial list of San Francisco's top 25 buildings, as determined by the San Francisco AIA in April 2007 (click here for the original SF Chronicle article by John King). Divided neatly into five choices in five categories (religious, residential, commercial, historic and civic) the conversation-starting list features beloved landmarks, controversial newcomers, and DB+P's own Curran House, affordable family housing in the Tenderloin.
Action: We crafted a bicycle tour featuring 11 of the 25 "Gems of the City", which David Baker has lead periodically in conjunction with the SFAIA. If an upcoming version of the guided tour is not slated in the near future, interested riders can easily download this PDF map and experience this non-strenuous urban bike tour at their own pace and schedule.
The tour starts at the historical Hallidie Building by Willis Polk in the Financial District, takes you through SoMA and Civic Center, makes a stop at Curran House in the Tenderloin, then circles back around to the Xanadu Gallery by Frank Lloyd Wright on Maiden Lane.
Feel free to write to info@dbarchitect.com with questions or comments about the tour. Enjoy!
