Folsom-Dore Supportive Apartments

San Francisco CA | Completed

2005

The first new LEED Silver building in San Francisco, Folsom-Dore’s limited environmental impact also curtails energy costs to residents.

These 98 supportive homes serve tenants with special needs, such as physical and developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS, and chronic homelessness. This innovative mixed-income community was one of the first to mix unhoused residents with people making up to 60% of AMI.

The entry garden court and green stair, filled with giant bamboo, provide a transitional decompression space between the homes and the hard urban environment outside. Residential parking has been greatly reduced, making way for a hybrid car-share vehicle and protected bicycle parking.

In awarding the project the Home Depot Foundation Award, the committee cited the project as “...one of the most innovative, multi-dimensional green affordable housing projects in the country.”
